Moulton School and Science College is committed to promoting safe and sustainable transport options for students travelling to and from school.
Students that live in the following linked villages are eligible for free school transport - Althorp, Boughton, Brixworth, Buckton Fields, Chapel Brampton, Church Brampton, Hannington, Harlestone, Holcot, Old, Pitsford, Scaldwell, Upper Harlestone and Walgrave.
West Northants Council (WNC) send all the bus passes to Moulton School and we give these out to students on the first day of the Autumn term. As new passes are issued each academic year, all students will be able to travel without a pass on the first morning.
If your child is allocated a late school place, after the initial allocation on 3 March 2025, you will need to apply for a bus pass online. https://www.westnorthants.gov.uk/school-travel-assistance. You must contact WNC to arrange a bus pass. The school can not arrange this on your behalf.
Please note WNC no longer accept paper applications.
WNC does not provide free transport from Northampton. If you live in Northampton, you are responsible for arranging transport for your child. There are public buses from some areas but please note not all routes stop in Moulton Village and the times the public buses run may not fit in with the school day. You will need to check with individual providers to see if there is a suitable bus service from where you live.Â
Our Cycling Policy encourages students to cycle to school while also emphasising the importance of safe cycling practices. The policy highlights:
Parental Responsibility: Parents/carers must decide if their child is competent to cycle to and from school. They are advised to obtain appropriate insurance, as the school's insurance does not cover cycling accidents.
Road Safety: Students must adhere to the Highway Code, ride safely, and be considerate of pedestrians and other road users.
Cycle Permits: Students wishing to cycle to school need a permit, obtainable through an online application form. Permits are renewed annually.
Bicycle Storage: Students with valid permits can store their bicycles in designated bike sheds on school grounds.
Consequences for Non-Compliance: Failure to follow the guidelines may lead to a temporary ban on cycling to school and withdrawal of cycling privileges.
Our Medical Policy addresses transport arrangements for students with medical conditions: The policy highlights:
School Trips and Sporting Activities: Moulton School actively supports the participation of students with medical conditions in school trips and activities. Risk assessments are conducted, and reasonable adjustments are made to ensure safe inclusion, unless medical evidence suggests otherwise.
Transport Healthcare Plans: The school considers developing transport healthcare plans with the local authority for students with life-threatening conditions who use home-to-school transport.
Designated drop-off and pick-up zones: If you intend on dropping your child off by car, we ask that you do not drive up Pound Lane please due to the congestion with the school buses.
Expectations for student behaviour on public transport: Encouraging responsible and respectful conduct.
